Kathryn Bigelow’s latest masterpiece doesn’t disappoint. Zero Dark Thirty is a smart, thrilling, raw look at the biggest manhunt in history – the hunt for Osama bin Laden. The film is pays extreme attention to detail, and makes the manhunt feel both meticulous and intense. The directing and writing pulls the viewer into the story and immerses them in its atmosphere. The viewer experiences every setback and accomplishment that Maya (Chastain) and her team make. Each setback feels devastating and each accomplishment feels exhilerating.
The movie makes you think about how intangible terrorism is and how hard it is to fight. The movie really captures how daunting of a challenge it was to find Osama bin Laden, which helped make every scene very dramatic.
There is never a dull moment thanks to Jessica Chastain’s perfect performance, and exceptional performances from all supporting actors. The movie is phenomenal and deserves all of the Oscar buzz it’s been getting. Bigelow got snubbed with no nomination for best director. The film better win Best Picture and Chastain better win Best Actress in a leading role, because Bigelow and Chastain completely deserve it. This is one of the best war dramas of all time, and is one of my all time favorites.
